Client Site Project Case Study

Introduction

Introduction Image 1

For our Web Class project we were tasked with creating a website for a client of our choice that met a set of criteria. The only requirement was that the client had an active business and that our work could be paid for or bartered in an exchange of services in order to give us a real world experience. I chose to create a website for a cousin who had recently launched his own epoxy flooring business.

Initial Work

Step 1: Initial Info Gathering

This project consisted of many steps that had to be followed in order to complete it to a high standard. Therefore the first step was determining the customers needs and goals they have for the both the website and the company as a whole to get a better understanding of what to include as well as what not to include in the website.

To acomplish this first step I created a form for the customer to fill out that would give a very clear initial picture of what they are looking for.

Step 2: Palettes and Immediate Needs

As my client didn't have an existing logo and a full brand guide solution didn't fit within the initial project's timeframe we decided to simply make a great logo that can be used as a base and expand witha full brand guide later.

The overall theme of the logo was to use common "construction colors while avoiding the typical yellows associated with construction companies it is widely considered cliche at this point.

After a meeting with the client we decided a simple pallete of Fulvous orange, silver, back and white making it easy to print while still providing a striking color choice that will stand out while also remaining true to the type of work that the company does.

Step 3: Logo Design

As the company was still in its early stages, it didn't have any existing logos when this project began. This meant there was a lot of back and forth needed to establish the company's brand identity. However, thanks to good teamwork and a willingness to listen to each other's ideas, we were able to finalize the logo surprisingly quickly.

Wireframes and Initial Feedback

Upon completion of the logo I moved on to wireframing the website to give the client an initial view of what the website could potentially look like. Below is the initial sketched wireframe that shows off the site along with corrections and additions in red.

Outcome

Completing the client's website and logo project on time and within budget, while incorporating all their desired features, including integrating a contact form to Google Sheets, was an effort driven by careful planning and open communication. We started by laying out a clear roadmap with defined milestones and resources, ensuring everyone was on the same page from the get-go. Regular check-ins with the client allowed us to stay aligned on the end product and make adjustments as needed along the way.

The client's request for a Google Sheets form integration posed an interesting challenge as it was something we had only done once before using an antiquated way of doing it, but nonetheless, approaching it with creativity and collaboration I managed to make it function correctly. In the end, not only was a visually appealing website and logo delivered but also a practical solution that exceeded the client's expectations, solidifying a successful partnership built on trust and teamwork.
